nombre is a vibe-coded command-line tool written in Golang to generate character names for creative writing and roleplaying. It uses two different methods for generation:
- Hard-coded lists
- Procedural using Markov-chains or phonetic structure mapping (e.g. Onset + Nucleus + Coda / CV rules.)
-
How Syllable Generation Works
-
Categorize Syllables: Group sounds into initial consonant sounds (Onsets), vowel sounds (Nuclei), and ending consonant sounds (Codas).
-
Define Archetype Rules:
- Elven/Fantasy: Soft consonants ($l, r, v, th$), long vowels ($ae, ia$), low chance of harsh codas.
- Dwarven/Orcish: Plosives ($k, gr, th, kr$), short abrupt vowels ($u, o$), heavy codas ($k, g, d$).
- Sci-Fi/Tech: Sharp sounds ($z, x, v, k$), numeric/code suffixes.
- Assemble: Stitch $1$ to $3$ syllables together to form a word.
It uses the charmbracelet ecosystem.
